Mr.
McEwan is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Business and did his
undergraduate work at The Virginia Military Institute. After 18 years
in research he went into marketing and sales for Upjohn and then Roche
Laboratories before joining The Comprehensive Transplant at Johns
Hopkins where he most recently was Administrative Director. It was as a
result of his experience in both the pharmaceutical industry and then at
Hopkins that he sought out and found a solution to the continuing
problem that patients face in paying for their medications. Mr. McEwan
founded and ran the MEDBANK program as a volunteer for two and-a-half
years, then came on board as MEDBANK's first CEO in 2003. The program
began by serving residents of Baltimore City and Baltimore County,
and became so successful that it went statewide in 2001. The need
for MEDBANK's services continues to be great and it has just entered its
7th year. It has now reached over 31,000 patients, providing
almost $90M in medications. A goal of the program is to share its
successful model with other states, in order to benefit and reach more
people nationally.
Mr. McEwan graduated from the
Weinberg Fellows Program in 2004.
